1212: The Making of the City

This new exhibition, in our Medieval Gallery, marks the 800th anniversary of York's independence, telling the story of medieval York and celebrating the people, places and events that have contributed to the ctiy's medieval heritage.
Highlights include our own star objects, including the York Helmet, Middleham Jewel, Sapphire Ring and St William’s Shrine, alongside paintings and works on paper from York Art Gallery.
More iconic objects from York Minster, the British Library and York's Mansion House and Merchant Adventurers' Hall will be brought under one roof for the first time, adding to the richness of the exhibition.
